The “Giant Parade Jabberwock” was originally created as the “Fox-Bat Phantom” for an indoor amateur theatre piece (CLICK HERE – to find out about the making of this) and we were asked if we could convert it into a parade puppet by Rachel Riggs of Dynamic New Animation for the Puppet Parade at “Puppet Up! – Blackpool Festival of Puppetry and Visual Theatre”.
The puppet was converted from requiring 6 puppeteers to just 2. The body was mounted onto a backpack, the upper part of the wings was supported by fibreglass rods and we made some plastezote “feet” for him.
He had also had an outing to Kirkleatham Museum in Redcar for their “That’s the Way to Do It! Puppet Festival”. This time he was used as a walkabout act (rather than a parade puppet) and we incorporated a portable P.A. system with roaring sound effects which could be triggered from an MP3 player while we were operating him.
He is currently in retirement in the Rough Magic Shed but if anyone is interested in him I think he could be renovated and made into a marvellous light up night-time dragon for light/illumination events. CLICK HERE to contact us and have a chat about it 🙂
