Welcome to Rough Magic Theatre 

We’re a puppet theatre company in Yorkshire who specialise in live, fun, family shows for all ages. With puppet theatre in the North and throughout the UK and childrens entertainment in Yorkshire and Lancashire, our hilarious, colourful and anarchic style continues to thrill audiences across the nation. 

Our explosive and energetic performances, great music and beautifully made puppets, guarantee a fun and memorable time, whenever and wherever you see us!

Puppetry in The North

We are currently touring a selection of street and shadow puppetry shows and puppet workshops. Our established Shadow Puppet Suitcase Theatre shows: “Edward Lear’s Nonsense” and “Jabberwocky!” have enthralled and entertained audiences across the UK for many years and we are currently creating new work including “Al & Kai’s Faboo News” an online TV show with positive news and entertainment for kids (CLICK HERE FOR INFO) and a new fairytale show for schools and other small venues: “Fairytales of Wit, Wisdom & Witchcraft” (CLICK HERE FOR INFO).  You can also find out more by visiting our Puppetlady blog which has all our latest news.

We welcome commissions for new work, (including online puppetry) and can create puppets to order, (shadow puppets are a speciality). Our previous commissions have included work for Theatre Mill‘s production “Sherlock Holmes and The Speckled Band” and Pioneer Projects community Barn Dance event.

Our shows and workshops are available to book for theatres, festivals, schools, community spaces and online events.
